Abstract

This paper shows the results and conclusion of a study that relates subjective well-being, including its financial aspect, with ethical behavior; specifically, with the intent to corrupt in a sample of Law students (N=101). In the study, participants report their life satisfaction, their financial satisfaction and, through a psychometric questionnaire, their intent to commit acts of corruption. The exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis of a Questionnaire of Corruption Intention allow two dimensions to be identified on this construct: (i) the relaxation of ethical standards and (ii) the permissiveness in the face of acts of corruption. The results show that the female gender has a negative relation with the relaxation of ethical standards and the permissiveness in the face of acts of corruption; and financial satisfaction relates negatively with the relaxation of ethical standards.

Resumen

Se presentan los resultados y conclusiones de un estudio que relaciona el bienestar subjetivo, incluyendo su aspecto financiero, con el comportamiento ético; específicamente, con la intención de corrupción en una muestra de estudiantes de Derecho (N=101). En el estudio, los participantes reportaron su nivel de satisfacción con la vida, de satisfacción financiera y, mediante un cuestionario, su intención de cometer actos de corrupción. Los análisis factoriales exploratorios y confirmatorios al Cuestionario de Intención de Corrupción (Leong & Lin, 2009) permitieron identificar dos dimensiones en este constructo: (i) el relajamiento de los estándares éticos y, (ii) la permisividad ante actos de corrupción. Los resultados indican que el género femenino se relacionaría negativamente con el relajamiento de los estándares éticos y la mayor permisividad hacia actos de corrupción; mientras que la satisfacción financiera tendría una relación negativa con el relajamiento de los estándares éticos.
